Government Digital Service have announced today, via their blog, an updated Service Standard for government services. The Service Standard helps teams to create and run great public services.
All public facing transactional services must meet the standard, which is used by departments and the Government Digital Service to check whether a service is good enough for public use.
The new Service Standard, which comes in to force at the end of June 2019:
Understand users and their needs
Solve a whole problem for users
Provide a joined up experience across all channels
Make the service simple to use
Make sure everyone can use the service
Have a multi-disciplinary team
Use agile ways of working
Iterate and improve frequently
Create a secure service which protects users’ privacy
Define what success looks like and publish performance data
Choose the right tools and technology
Make new source code open
Use and contribute to common standards, components and patterns
Operate a reliable service
