NHS Digital is supporting the mandatory roll out of free WiFi access for patients and staff, in all NHS GP Practices by 31st December 2017 and hospitals and secondary care in 2018. A secure, stable and reliable WiFi capability will allow health and care professionals to deliver patient care more easily and to use mobile devices as part of their care delivery, while patients and the public will be able to download health apps, browse the internet and look up health and care information.

Event Information

NHS Digital is supporting the mandatory roll out of free WiFi access for patients and staff, in all NHS GP Practices by 31st December 2017 and hospitals and secondary care in 2018. A secure, stable and reliable WiFi capability will allow health and care professionals to deliver patient care more easily and to use mobile devices as part of their care delivery, while patients and the public will be able to download health apps, browse the internet and look up health and care information.

NHS delegates are invited to attend this one day programme of presentations, panel discussions and interactive dialogue. Project leads and IT leads in Clinical Commissioning Groups can expect to find out more about implementing NHS WiFi and the standards and requirements that they must meet to roll out WiFi.

This conference will benefit those that have yet to implement WiFi as well as those who have already started the process; delegates will have the opportunity to attend sessions hosted by NHS England and NHS Digital, engage with solution providers and network with their peers from across the NHS.

NHS England will give an overview on how the Wi-Fi programme fits in its strategic ambitions of delivering successful and sustainable improvements in care across the NHS and for primary care in particular. The roles and responsibilities of local, regional and national organisations, including GP IT delivery partners, will be pivotal in delivering these ambitions. Together with NHS Digital, an update on the current position will be presented to lay the foundation in meeting the challenge of deploying the service by December 2017 in all GP sites.

All CCGs in England have now been allocated funding to rollout Wi-Fi in GP practices by December 2017. NHS Digital will share any best practice models and lessons learned from the 20 CCGs who acted as early adopters and successfully procured and implemented Wi-Fi by March 2017.
The session will provide detail on the purpose, requirement and procurement of Wi-Fi systems in primary care and outline the support available to enable the remaining 90% of CCGs to deliver and have working Wi-Fi across GP surgeries by the end of December 2017.

Phil Gibson

Phil Gibson is Chair of Innopsis, the Industry Association for companies that deliver networking solutions to the public sector.  He also heads up Avoca Associates, which specialises in service transformation solutions in the Public Sector. Prior to Avoca he headed up the Public Sector Business development team at Virgin Media Business. He has been involved with PSN since its inception, chairing the workstream that developed the operating model and the challenging governance processes that are needed to make it work.

Before Virgin he was Head of Strategic Business at Cable and Wireless Worldwide and Head of Local Government at Energis, where he created ‘Government Connect’ as a response to the need for better information sharing in the wake of the Victoria Climbié tragedy. Phil has also held senior positions at NextiraOne, Alcatel and BT where he began his career in engineering.

When not involved in his public sector interests Phil is happiest behind a welding mask, restoring classic Italian sports cars!

David Corbett
Keynote – David Corbett, NHS WiFi Programme Director, NHS Digital

David Corbett is a Prince 2 and MSP practitioner, graduate of the Cabinet Office Project Leadership Programme (PLP), and an experienced health IT Programme Head. He has over 10 years experience working with Clinicians, Information Management & Technology teams, Royal Colleges, other Professional Bodies, Patient Groups, Government departments and suppliers to deploy IT systems and services to NHS organisations and on-line services to patients throughout England.

In June 2016 he was appointed Programme Head for the NHS WiFi Programme, taking on responsibility for the leadership and delivery of the NHS WiFi Programme, part of the Paperless 2020 portfolio of programmes.

The NHS WiFi Programme has been established to meet a Secretary of State commitment to support the provision of free WiFi for patients, and health and care professionals across 9,500+ GP surgeries and 220+ secondary care Trusts across England, and was one of four recommendations made by Martha Lane Fox to the Department of Health to drive forward digital inclusion and take up of digital technologies.

Prior to his current role, David has managed several significant projects across the healthcare sector including:

–    A Programme Head role for the Data Delivery work stream of ‘care.data’, a major project on the Government’s Major Project Portfolio. The programme was established to increase the range of information collected across all NHS-funded services for purposes beyond direct care.

–    Managing the South Acute Programme, a £100 million+ procurement programme supporting 20+ hospitals in the South of England to locally procure and deploy clinical systems.

–    Leading Department for Health Informatics team supporting the DH QIPP National Urgent Care Clinical Dashboard (UCCD) project. By 31 March 2012 the project had supported the delivery of dashboards to 30 PCTs and pathfinder clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), covering over 1,000 GP practices and six million patients.

Outside of work he spends his time running a successful small sports events management company, representing his running club and county in events including marathons, half marathons, 24hr endurance events and cross-country races, and supporting his children including his young daughter who is a county and regional swimming champion.

Edward Bellamy

Edward is Egton’s Product Director and has worked across the UK Healthcare IT sector for almost 15 years. He has a Masters in Law specialising in Information Technology and has worked for EMIS Group for the last two years.

Edward was the instrumental force behind the market leading compliance and operational software, Intradoc247, and is involved with bringing connected content and eco-systems to Primary, Community and Pharmacy.

Adrian is a Benefits specialist, working across multiple work streams within NHS Digital

Adrian has worked within the NHS for 17 years prior to working as a Consultant, Senior Lecturer in IT and with major players in the retail environment.  He has worked on national NHS Digital and Trust based IT enabled changed programmes, ensuring these programmes are enabled to maximise their investments, both financial and intellectual.

Adrian currently lives on the east coast of Yorkshire.

Andy is an NHS Programme Manager with 20 years NHS experience.  He worked for Ambulance Services and NHS Direct before joining NHS Digital and has been involved in many national programmes including the National Pandemic Flu Service, NHS 111, Health and Justice, Child Health and now NHS Wi-Fi all of which have delivered real benefits to patients, the public and clinical staff.

Andy is passionate about improving patient experience and is keen to engage with all stakeholders to achieve that.

Andy has three children and lives just outside Bolton, and goes fishing every opportunity he gets.

Paul worked extensively in the IT and Telecommunications industries before joining the Office of Government Commerce, predecessor of Crown Commercial Service, in 2004 to support Government Broadband initiatives, initially as a technical consultant and then in procurement.

He has developed and managed many telecoms frameworks and contracts, and as a member of the CCS Aggregation Team has run a variety of aggregated procurements largely.
